The National has premiered a new song called “Eucalyptus,” a track off the band’s upcoming album, First Two Pages of Frankenstein.
“Throughout the record there’s a lot of looking into the abyss and wondering if a relationship has run its course,” says frontman Matt Berninger. “‘Eucalyptus’ is about a couple splitting up their possessions after a breakup — like, ‘What are we going to do with the spring water we get delivered, what’s going to happen to all these plants?'”
Berninger adds, “It’s about all those little things you end up having to think about when you’ve become so connected to someone.”
You can listen to “Eucalyptus” now via digital outlets and watch its accompanying video streaming now on YouTube.
First Two Pages of Frankenstein will be released April 28. It includes the previously released songs “Tropic Morning News” and “New Order T-Shirt,” as well as collaborations with Taylor Swift and Phoebe Bridgers.
The National will launch a U.S. tour in support of First Two Pages of Frankenstein in May.
