Fall Out Boy, Shinedown break ‘Billboard’ chart records

Billboard chart records are falling thanks to Fall Out Boy and Shinedown.

The “Sugar, We’re Goin Down” outfit has hit #1 on the Alternative Airplay ranking with “Love from the Other Side,” the lead single off the group’s upcoming album, So Much (for) Stardust. Not only is “Love from the Other Side” the first Fall Out Boy single to reach the top Alternative Airplay spot, it sets the record for the longest wait between an artist’s first appearance on the chart and their first #1.

Having made their debut on Alternative Airplay with “Sugar” in June 2005, Fall Out Boy waited a total of 17 years and nine months to finally conquer the tally.

The previous record was set by Stone Temple Pilots, who took 17 years and two weeks to hit #1 in 2010 with “Between the Lines” after first charting in 1993 with “Plush.”

So Much (for) Stardust, the follow-up to 2018’s M A N I A, arrives March 24.

Shinedown, meanwhile, now holds the record for the most top-10 hits on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart. Brent Smith and company’s latest single, “Dead Don’t Die,” is the group’s 30th entry on Mainstream Rock Airplay to reach that threshold, breaking a three-way tie with Foo Fighters and Five Finger Death Punch, who each have 29.

The “Second Chance” rockers are used to making Billboard history, having already set the record for the most #1s on Mainstream Rock Airplay, with 18.

“Dead Don’t Die” appears on Shinedown’s new album, Planet Zero, which was released last July.
