Snoop Dogg, a man of many talents, will tap into his acting skills for an upcoming comedy titled The Underdoggs. According to Deadline, he will play the role of lead character Jaycen Jenning aka “2Js,” a former NFL star who has a run-in with the law and agrees to coach a youth football team to avoid jail time.

Similarly, Snoop has been a coach at his Snoop Youth Football League, which he developed with business partner Constance Schwartz-Morini. They pitched the idea for the film to Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios, who has officially taken on the project.

“‘The Underdoggs’ is a real personal project for me considering that I’ve been coaching football for 15-plus years with the Snoop Youth Football League that I started with my long-time business partner Constance Schwartz-Morini,” Snoop said in a statement. “Giving back to the community through football has taught us so many invaluable life lessons that we’ve been able to share with kids in similar situations like mine when I was growing up. My hope is that this movie will shed light on the realities that kids and adults face in the hood and within the complex world of football.”

In addition to acting, Snoop and Death Row Pictures will produce The Underdoggs alongside Schwartz-Morini, Black-ish‘s Kenya BarrisMychelle Deschamps and Jonathan GlickmanCharles Stone will serve as director for the movie, which was written by Danny Segal and Isaac Schamis.

The Underdoggs is set for a release date of October 20, 2023.
