Mod Sun has released a new song called “Rich Kids Ruin Everything.”
The track, which is available now via digital outlets, finds the “Flames” rocker reflecting on the recent mainstream resurgence of pop punk and reaching out to “all the kids that feel confident in their own skin and don’t walk around wearing a costume.”
“I grew up a scene kid, I grew up a skateboarder and a pop punk kid and I used to get made fun of for being all of those, for the way I looked, the way I dressed, for the way I acted and all the things [I] love,” Mod says. “It’s both awesome and hilarious, yet confusing seeing the general public and pop culture embracing all the things that I would get torn down for.”
“Everything now is about trends,” he continues. “If it keeps going this way and getting championed then eventually originality will be a lost art. I’m trying to let people know that there’s more to this world than what’s currently popular. I want kids to feel like it’s important to be visionaries not followers.”
“Rich Kids Run Everything” is the first off Mod’s next album. It’ll be the follow-up to 2021’s Internet Killed the Rockstar, which features the Avril Lavigne collaboration, “Flames.”
Meanwhile, Lavigne’s new album Love Sux features several songs co-written and co-produced by Mod.
