Conner Smith has been charged with a misdemeanor traffic citation a month after he was involved in a car accident that left one person dead.

The “Country in the Clouds” singer, 24, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck in Nashville on June 8 when he struck 77-year-old Dorothy Dobbins as she was crossing the roadway, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said at the time.

Dobbins, who lived nearby, was subsequently “transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died,” according to police.

Nashville police said in a press release Thursday that Smith has since been charged with failure to yield the right of way resulting in death, which is a Class A misdemeanor.

The singer, who was accompanied by his attorney, was issued the state misdemeanor citation at the Traffic Division office on Thursday night just after 6 p.m., according to the press release.

Police stated that an investigation into the incident “shows Dobbins was crossing 3rd Avenue North near Van Buren Street in a marked crosswalk when she was hit by the pickup truck.”

“After Dobbins was struck, witnesses reported Smith ran to her to render aid until [Nashville Fire Department] paramedics arrived,” the press release continued. “Dobbins was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died. Officers found no evidence of impairment or distracted driving on the part of Smith.”

Smith’s attorney Worrick G Robinson addressed his client’s citation in a statement shared with ABC’s Good Morning America, saying that Smith is “incredibly grateful to the MNPD for their time and efforts to carefully investigate this tragic accident and has continued to cooperate at all times.”

“His thoughts remain with Ms. Dobbins’ family, and he remains committed to honoring her memory with compassion by supporting efforts to improve pedestrian safety and help prevent future tragedies,” Robinson added.

Since the accident, changes have been made to improve safety around the crosswalk, including the installment of signs and the removal of a tree that was obstructing the crosswalk’s view.

In an obituary published by The Tennessean on June 15, Dobbins, known as “Dot” to loved ones, was remembered by family and friends as a grandmother and a “respected attorney and advocate” who “spent over four decades championing family law, domestic violence prevention, and anti-violence initiatives.”

On Friday, Smith took to Instagram to share a statement about the accident and said that his heart is “broken in a way I’ve never experienced.”

“Not a day has gone by that I haven’t grieved, prayed, and mourned for Ms. Dobbins and her family,” he wrote. “I still struggle to fully process the weight of it all.”

He continued, “I ask that you continue to lift the Dobbins family up in prayer by name, asking for God’s peace to surround them each day.”

The singer added that he has made the decision to “step away from shows” over the past few weeks “out of respect for everyone involved and to give space for grieving.”

“I have always found that making music and playing shows is a place of healing for me — but for this moment, it was important for me to take that time away,” he said.

He ended his message by saying that he’s leaned on God during this time.

“Through tragedy, I have learned that God is more faithful than I could have ever known before,” he said.

Clipse is celebrating their new album with a performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk. Now available to watch on YouTube, their concert quickly goes through the Thornton brothers’ discography with help from a live band.

They performed throwbacks “Virginia,” “Keys Open Doors” and “Momma I’m Sorry” before performing the Kendrick Lamar-assisted “Chains & Whips” and “The Birds Don’t Sing” from their newly released project, Let God Sort Em Out.

Clipse then closed out the performance with the grand finale: a live rendition of their hit “Grindin’.”

Clipse’s debut on Tiny Desk arrives alongside the release of Let God Sort Em Out, their first album in 16 years.

Speaking with Complex, Pusha T reflected on how it feels to be working with his brother Malice again.

“I’ve been working for the past 14 years without my brother. Being in this business, knowing it, coming into it as a collective, then being in it for so long by myself and really understanding brotherhood, camaraderie, family, loyalty, and knowing what that was and then not having it for so long and just being out there like, warrior time. You appreciate it so much,” he said.

Malice said he had to sit down, reflect, “get into my Word, understand who God is, and what my purpose is” before he could make his return to music. Now, he thinks the “timing is right.”

“Just to see my brother in position, Pharrell still in position, and me being where I needed to be, and to be able to come back, it’s really a no-brainer,” he said. “I feel like it’s ordained and I feel like it’s time.”

Smith is now the first lead solo act to hit #1 with their first two entries on the Alternative Airplay ranking since Alanis Morissette did the same thing in 1995 with the Jagged Little Pill singles “You Oughta Know” and “Hand in My Pocket.”

“Apologies” to Shinedown, but Three Days Grace is coming for your Billboard record.

The Canadian rockers have just earned their 19th #1 hit on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart with their current single, “Apologies.” That puts them just one behind Shinedown, who hold the record for most number ones with 20 since the tally began in 1981.

Three Days Grace at one point did own the record for most Mainstream Rock Airplay number ones when they broke Van Halen‘s long standing mark of 13 leaders back in 2018. Shinedown then took over as the all-time leader in 2020, and they and Three Days Grace have been going back-and-forth for the record ever since.

“Apologies” appears on 3DG’s upcoming album, Alienation, their first since original frontman Adam Gontier rejoined the band to form a two-vocalist lineup alongside longtime singer Matt Walst.

Alienation is due out Aug. 22. It also includes the lead single “Mayday,” which hit #1 on Mainstream Rock Airplay, as well.

Kid Cudi may be Free in certain aspects of his life, but he’s locked into love with new wife Lola Abecassis Sartoremet.

The two tied the knot during a ceremony on June 28 at Cap Estel in Èze in the South of France.

“It was bliss,” Lola, head designer at ERL, tells Vogue. “A moment out of time where the world stopped, and it was just the two of us. We forgot everything around us. It was just us and our love, and it was the purest moment.”

During the ceremony the couple exchanged bands created by jeweler Ben Baller. Afterward, their guests enjoyed a performance from Badbadnotgood, who performed at Virgil Abloh‘s first show for Louis Vuitton, where the couple met, according to Vogue.

Cudi flexed his musical talents during the wedding’s after-party, performing two songs for Lola from his upcoming album, Free, set to arrive on Aug. 22.

Cudi and Lola met in 2018. He proposed on Dec. 28, 2023, at a temple in Kyoto.

“Everyone [we know who had] already gotten married told us it would go fast. We didn’t know it would go this quickly [though]. We’re on cloud nine in our little bubble of love,” Lola tells Vogue. “It’s so overwhelming to receive so much love in such a short amount of time. You want this feeling to never end. It was really the most perfect, flawless, peaceful day, and we want to do it all over again. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing.”

Is it clocking to you now? Justin Bieber addresses his viral “standing on business” rant on his new album, Swag.

In a voice memo interlude titled “Standing on Business,” we hear the sound play of Justin telling paparazzi, “You’re not getting it. It’s not clocking to you. It’s not clocking to you that I’m standing on business.”

Then we hear comedian Druski poking fun at Justin for the way he pronounced “business.”

In another spoken interlude with Druski, titled “Therapy Session,” Justin addresses the scrutiny over his mental health. “I think that’s been a tough thing for me recently,” he says. “Feeling like I’ve had to go through a lot of my struggles as a human really publicly, and so people always asking if I’m OK, and that starts to really weigh on me.”

He also gets personal on the track “Walking Away,” in which he sings about struggles in his marriage to wife Hailey Bieber.

“Baby, I ain’t walking away,” he sings. “You were my diamond/ Gave you a ring/ I made you a promise/ I told you I’d change.”

Swag, which also features standout tracks “Daisies” and “Yukon,” is out now.
