With time to kill at a casino, some artists might indulge in some gambling, but not Chase Matthew.

Instead, Chase played the odds and ended up with his top-15 hit “Darlin’.”

“We ended up in the Midwest where we couldn’t really justify going home, just to have to turn back around and come back. So we ended staying there at the hotel,” he tells ABC Audio. “And so I brought the studio [equipment] in my hotel room and started writing this song.”

After finishing it back in Nashville, it was time to test it out on the road.

“It’s gone on to be the crowd favorite, like everyone at shows is just like chanting for that song,” he says. “They buy the big ‘Darlin” hats and … they’re excited about that one.”

Chase is currently Down Under touring Australia with Keith Urban on his High & Alive World Tour. If you can’t make it there to pick up your own “Darlin'” hat, you get one on Chase’s website, of course.

Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley has reunited with the guitar that he previously played along with Iggy Pop.

The pewter gray Telecaster can be seen in the video for “Little Know It All,” Sum 41’s 2003 collaboration with the Godfather of Punk. Whibley also played it during Sum 41’s performance with Iggy at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards Latinoamérica in Miami.

The guitar has long been in the possession of the Hard Rock Cafe. In February Whibley sent out an open request to the music-themed restaurant chain asking if they could “work something out.” Now, sixth months later, the Tele is back in Whibley’s hands.

“Reunited with an old friend after 20 years!” Whibley writes in an Instagram post alongside photos of him holding the returned guitar.

Whibley adds that he’ll be releasing a video documenting the guitar’s journey back to him.

Sum 41 played the last show of their farewell tour in January and got back together for one last performance at Canada’s Juno Awards in March.

Monday will mark the 50th anniversary of Bruce Springsteen’s blockbuster album Born To Run, and to mark the occasion a new lithograph poster has been released to raise money for charity.

The poster was created by photographer Eric Meola, who shot the original Born To Run cover, along with art director Dave Bett. It features a photo of Springsteen from the album’s cover shoot, holding up the collar of his leather jacket with his guitar slung across his shoulder.

Proceeds from the sale are going to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, an organization Bruce has supported for years. The organization is also reaching a milestone: 50 years of providing food and help to the community.

“You know, I like to believe that it’s a magical thing that it’s the 50th anniversary for the FoodBank as well as for Born to Run,” Meola says. “There’s something symbiotic going on there — it’s just magical.”

He adds, “It was only natural that when I saw Bruce donating to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, I said to myself, ‘What an incredible thing. I’ve got this treasure trove of photographs that are some of the most sought-after photographs of Bruce, and what a great way to make money for the food bank.'”

A limited number of hand-numbered posters are now available, with a limit of two per person.

Released Aug. 25, 1975, Born To Run was Springsteen’s third album and helped him garner mainstream success. It peaked at #3 on the Billboard charts and went on to become a massive hit for The Boss, thanks to songs like the title track, “Thunder Road” and “Tenth Avenue Freeze Out.”

It was added to the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry in 2015.

The Beach Boys’ Al Jardine at odds with Mike Love over Brian Wilson’s funeral

The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson was laid to rest in early August, and, according to Rolling Stone, his bandmates Al Jardine and Mike Love gave speeches at a gathering after the funeral. But according to Jardine, Love’s speech didn’t really focus on Wilson.

“Mike wanted everybody to know that he wrote every single word of ‘Good Vibrations,'” Jardine told the mag in an interview that took place eight days after the funeral. “I didn’t feel the compassion, let’s put it that way. Mike’s got some serious megalomania problems.”

Jardine added, “I was focusing on Brian, and Mike was more focused on Mike. I think that is what it boiled down to.”

But a rep for Love denies Jardine’s account of what happened.

“That’s not true,” the rep told the mag. “Mike’s focus has always been on uplifting audiences around the world through the music he helped create with his bandmates and cousin Brian.”

“His commitment has been to preserve and share this great American songbook while providing resources to fellow Beach Boys shareholders, including Al Jardine,” the statement continued. “In addition, Mike and The Beach Boys have dedicated significant time and support to nonprofit organizations using their platform to give back to communities in need.”

Wilson passed away in June at the age of 82. His daughter Carnie Wilson revealed that he was laid to rest on Aug. 6.

Jardine is currently on tour with the Pet Sounds Band, made up of members of Wilson’s band. The tour hits Sheboygan, Wisconsin, on Friday. A complete list of dates can be found at AlJardine.com.

Talking Heads frontman David Byrne is engaged to be married.

The news was revealed in a story in The Times, which notes that Byrne “lives in New York with his fiancée, the businesswoman and artist Mala Gaonkar.”

In the article, Byrne also refers to Gaonkar as his “fiancée” when talking about the inspiration behind the song “Moisturizing Thing” on his upcoming album, Who Is the Sky?, dropping Sept. 5.

“My fiancée will sometimes come at me with greasy hands, ready to smear my face. And at one point I thought, ‘What if I wake up and really looked younger?'” he says. “But there’s a message, too. About how people judge us by the way we look. You learn a lesson you didn’t expect at the start.”

This will be the second marriage for Byrne. He was previously married to costume designer Adelle Lutz from 1987 to 2004. They had one child together, daughter Malu Abeni Valentine Byrne, who was born in 1989.

Sabrina Carpenter‘s dogs may be gracing the cover of DogueVogue‘s annual issue focusing on celebrities’ dogs, but it’s ROSÉ‘s pup who is truly a star. According to Vogue, the BLACKPINK singer’s terrier mix, Hank, is the most-followed celebrity dog on Instagram — he has 4.6 million followers. “I try to take him everywhere when I can,” the singer says of the pooch, who’s named after Tom Hanks. “If I could tell him one thing … I would tell him that I wish I could spend every minute of my day with him.”

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco don’t have a wedding date yet, but Benny says he already knows what kind of father he’s going to be to their future children. Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, the hitmaking producer says, “Always let your child explore. Love them unconditionally. Follow the vision and don’t give up, but also teach your kid great foundational tips on how to treat themselves, how to treat women and men, and respect and just love and, you know, all the things.”

Post Malone is the father of a 3-year-old girl and says he couldn’t be happier. Speaking with GQ, he calls his daughter “hilarious” and “the most beautiful creature to ever have existed on this earth.” As an example of her humor, Posty says his daughter will tell him, “I love you,” to which he’ll respond, “How much?” Then, he says, “She goes, ‘A little.’ I go, ‘Oh, you little s***.’ And then she calls me a little s***, too. It’s pretty funny.”

The American Music Awards, which aired in May with host Jennifer Lopez, will return next year on CBS and Paramount+. 2026 will mark the start of a new deal that will see the fan-voted awards show air on CBS and Paramount+ for the next five years. Next year’s show will air live from Las Vegas over Memorial Day weekend.

Many artists won’t talk about their love life in interviews, but Dua Lipa figures if it’s a positive thing, why not?

In her new Harper’s Bazaar cover story, Dua, who’s engaged to actor Callum Turner, says, “I’m happier than ever, so it feels like I’m doing a disservice by not talking about it.  … When you’re a public person, anything that’s very personal is very vulnerable. It’s not like I don’t want to share it.”

“That vulnerability is so scary, but I feel so lucky to get to feel it,” she notes. “I’ve spent a lot of time being guarded or protecting my heart, and so I’m letting go of that feeling and just being like, ‘Okay, if I’m supposed to get hurt, then this is what’s going to happen.’ I have to just allow love.”

“I love love. It is a beautiful thing,” Lipa tells the magazine. “It’s a really inspiring thing. You find yourself so intensely falling all the time in the best way possible.”

In addition to being happy in her love life, Dua is happily planning her next album, despite currently being on tour for her most recent one, 2024’s Radical Optimism.

“Every day I’m making something that sounds completely different from yesterday. Trying to figure out the new direction is probably the most fun part, but it’s also the hardest,” she says.

The article also mentions that Dua and Mark Ronson — who worked with her on her Barbie song “Dance the Night Away,” among other projects — were “recording new material at a studio in New York.” And Ronson says Dua, with whom he’s worked for eight years, is currently entering “a new era for her as a songwriter and as a singer and as a human.”
