Sydney Sweeney is a boxing champion in the trailer for Christy.

Black Bear released the official trailer for the new film based on the life of boxer Christy Martin on Thursday.

David Michôd co-wrote and directed the movie, which also stars Ben FosterMerritt WeverKaty O’Brian and Chad Coleman.

“Christy Martin (Sweeney) never imagined life beyond her small-town roots in West Virginia — until she discovered a knack for punching people. Fueled by grit, raw determination, and an unshakable desire to win, she charges into the world of boxing under the guidance of her trainer and manager-turned-husband, Jim (Foster),” the film’s synopsis reads. “But while Christy flaunts a fiery persona in the ring, her toughest battles unfold outside it—confronting family, identity, and a relationship that just might become life-or-death. Based on remarkable true events, Christy Martin’s story is one of resilience, courage, and the fight to reclaim one’s life.”

The trailer shows off the physical transformation Sweeney went through to play Martin in the film. We also see scenes of her in the boxing ring taking punches and throwing swings.

“I think I found my thing,” Sweeney’s Martin says in the trailer. “I bet most people go their entire lives and they don’t even know what their thing is.”

Christy arrives in theaters on Nov. 7.

Britt Lower, Zach Cherry and Adam Scott in ‘Severance.’ (Apple TV+)

Heading into the 77th Emmy Awards Sunday, the Apple TV+ series Severance is the leading nominee with 27 nods, including outstanding drama series. The show follows employees at the cult-like corporation Lumon, who’ve volunteered for “severance,” a procedure that makes them forget their home lives while at work and vice versa.

Among the recognition for the series are nominations for the show’s lead actors: lead actor and lead actress in a drama series for Adam Scott and Britt Lower; supporting actor in a drama for John TurturroZach Cherry and Tramell Tillman; and supporting actress in a drama for Patricia Arquette.

Turturro’s nominated for his role as Irv, specifically for the episode “Woe’s Hollow,” where the severed employees leave the office for the first time for a team-building exercise in the woods. What follows is a violent confrontation with a co-worker who Irv assumes to be a spy, leading to his termination from Lumon.

Turturro says of the episode, “We got to be outside, which was a big relief for me.” He says he “put a lot of work” into playing Irv both as an “innie” — his severed persona at Lumon — and “outie,” the person he is outside of work.

But, he notes, “It’s a bit of a roller coaster, the show, and sometimes you yourself are confused, saying, ‘Would he know this? Would he not know that?'”

Arquette has been nominated for her role as Harmony Cobel [koe-BELL], the villain of season 1, who switches loyalties when she becomes disenchanted with how Lumon has treated her.

“Cobel’s really been knocked off her axis. She’s in a very weird position that she’s never been in before,” Arquette says of her season 2 journey. “And I think she’s in a bit of [an] interior cyclone of, what does she want to do? What does she believe in? How does she feel about this corporation?”

Prime Video has announced that the hit comedy series from creator and star Benito Skinner will return for season 2. Skinner will once again write, star in and executive produce this upcoming new season of the show.

“I have been so overwhelmed by the insane response to the show, and feel so damn lucky to go back to Yates University with Amazon MGM Studios, A24, Strong Baby, and this legendary cast for season 2!! PLAY SUPER BASS :),” Skinner said in a press release.

The first season of Overcompensating followed Benny (Skinner), a closeted former homecoming king who heads to college and “becomes fast friends with Carmen (Wally Baram), a high school outsider on a mission to fit in at all costs,” according to its official synopsis. “With guidance from Benny’s older sister (Mary Beth Barone) and her campus-legend boyfriend (Adam DiMarco), Benny and Carmen juggle horrible hookups, flavored vodka, and fake IDs. Deeply funny and personal, the show explores the lengths to which we all overcompensate while on the path to finding out who we really are.”

I’ve heard it said, that movies come into our lives for a reason.

Wicked director Jon M. Chu has unveiled new details about the upcoming sequel film Wicked: For Good in a recent Entertainment Weekly interview.

Chu says that this new film will find Cythina Erivo‘s Elphaba and Ariana Grande‘s Glinda questioning what home really means. This will be the central question at the heart of the movie and also the two new songs Stephen Schwartz has composed for the film.

“What happens when you are fighting for a home that you realize doesn’t even want you there, or was never meant for you? Do you defend it? Do you fight for it? Does anyone else think of home the same as you?” Chu told the outlet. “Those questions are very interesting and relevant to Elphaba’s journey.”

Glinda is dealing with the same question, Chu said, albeit in a different way.

“Glinda is the one that has to ultimately pop her own bubble,” the director said. “She has to leave her privilege to actually see other people’s struggles and fight for justice and equality.”

As for critics who may dismiss the inclusion of two new songs as bids for a best original song Oscar nomination, Chu says they are necessary for the story being told.

“Even after we recorded them, even after we put them in the movie, we kicked the tires on them to make sure that we had to put them in this movie,” Chu said. “Otherwise, it wasn’t worth it.”

He said these new songs are about how “both witches are trying to find their way home.”

“It’s questions that I’ve always wanted to hear from them in the stage show, but never got to,” Chu said. “We get to take our time and explore those questions.”

Taylor Frankie Paul is on the search for love.

The reality star, 31, who appears on the hit Hulu series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, was announced Wednesday as the next Bachelorette for season 22 of the hit reality TV show.

Paul opened up about her decision to join the Bachelorette franchise as its next leading lady in an interview Wednesday on Alex Cooper‘s Call Her Daddy podcast. Paul, who told Cooper that she thinks making a funny TikTok about her wanting to be on the show led to her getting the invitation, says she had some reservations about doing it.

“I’m like, ‘Is this possible for me to do as a single mom? Can I make it work realistically, no matter how much I want this? And I was like, ‘I can. If I want to, I can … so I was just like, ‘I will make it work,'” Paul said.

She added, “I also recognize the double standards of being a woman and a mom versus being a father. It’s like the dads get to just go and everyone’s like, ‘He’s thriving,’ and if a mom ends up doing something for herself, it’s like, ‘You’re such a bad mom, how could you do this?'”

Paul, a mother of three, rose to fame on TikTok as part of the MomTok group, which includes her Secret Lives of Mormon Wives co-stars Jennifer Affleck, Mayci Neeley, Whitney Leavitt, Layla Taylor, Demi Engemann, Jessi Ngatikaura and Mikayla Matthews.

The series follows the group as they navigate the complexities of their personal lives following a swinging sex scandal that made international headlines. Season three arrives Nov. 13.

Season 22 of The Bachelorette will premiere in 2026.

The Only Murders in the Building crew is investigating the death of their beloved doorman in season 5.

This new season, which premiered its first three episodes Tuesday on Hulu, finds Steve MartinMartin Short and Selena Gomez back as Charles, Oliver and Mabel. The trio refuses to believe the death of the Arconia’s doorman, Lester, was an accident. In untangling the web of what happened, the trio discover dangerous secrets that connect powerful billionaires with old-school mobsters.

“Our first suspicion when there’s a crime in the building [is] that we suspect it’s ‘the mob,’ in quotes, you know, the old-fashioned cliche, Sopranos-type situation,” Martin told ABC Audio. “Slowly we discover that there’s a new mob. And they are defined in a very contemporary way. It has nothing to do with the old mob.”

As for how their characters are doing emotionally in season 5, Gomez says Mabel is “exploring her independent side,” more solidified and confident. Charles, on the other hand, has been feeling pretty lonely as of late, especially after Oliver’s marriage to Loretta (Meryl Streep) at the end of season 4.

In previous seasons, Charles keeps picking “a female who tries to murder him,” Martin said.

“This year, he is very conscientious about not doing that. He’s very conscientious about trying to get out there more. And so he’s online, he’s doing some online dating, and he’s got a profile that Mabel makes fun of,” Martin said. “And he’s seeking medical help to sort of alter his mindset.”

Without missing a beat, Short quipped: “Not just his mindset!”

A movie featuring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson singing Neil Diamond hits as they fall in love? How Sweet — Caroline, that is.

The first trailer has arrived for Song Sung Blue, the story of a two down-on-their luck musicians from Milwaukee who form a Neil Diamond tribute band called Lightning & Thunder and find love in the process. It’s based on a true story, which was previously told in a 2008 documentary of the same name, which itself is named after Diamond’s 1972 hit.

Jackman is seen in the trailer dressed in full Neil Diamond 1970s-era regalia, belting out “Sweet Caroline” and singing “Cherry, Cherry” with Hudson, whose character comes up with the idea for their tribute band. At one point, Jackman really leans into the Neil Diamond of it all, telling Hudson, “You’re my August Night, my ‘September Morn,’ my ‘Cracklin’ Rosie.'”

Song Sung Blue, which also stars Michael Imperioli, Ella Anderson, Fisher Stevens and Jim Belushi, hits theaters Dec. 25.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon reunite in the first look at the new film The Rip.

Netflix released the first images and new details about the film on Tuesday. The movie, which stars Affleck and Damon, follows a team of cops in Miami, Florida, who discover millions of dollars in a rundown stash house.

“Soon, the trust between them begins to erode, especially once outside forces learn about the size of the seizure. Everything is called into question — including who they can rely on,” according to a description from Netflix.

Joe Carnahan wrote and directed the film, which stars the famous best friends as Lieutenant Dane Dumars (Damon) and Detective Sergeant J.D. Byrne (Affleck). In the new photos, the actors are seen working closely together and as part of a greater team.

As for what audiences can expect from the film, Carnahan told Netflix the story came from a “deeply personal experience” his friend went through as the head of tactical narcotics for the Miami Dade police department.

“It’s inspired in part by his life and then, by my enduring love for those classic ‘70’s cop thrillers that really valued the character and interpersonal relationships and became touchstones of that era — films like Serpico and Prince of The City and more recently, Michael Mann‘s Heat,” Carnahan said.

The film’s ensemble also includes Steven YeunTeyana TaylorCatalina Sandino MorenoSasha CalleNestor CarbonellLina EscoScott Adkins and Kyle Chandler.

Affleck and Damon also produce the film alongside the latter’s wife, Luciana Damon.

The Rip streams on Netflix on Jan. 16, 2026.
