Cardi B sat down with Jason Lee to kick off his new talk show on Revolt. In the premiere episode, she opened up about where she was when she learned that Takeoff had died.
“[I] was in bed,” Cardi recalls. “We was going to go to LaLa’s party in New York, and my daughter threw up all over my costume … We just fell asleep, and out of nowhere, Offset’s phone kept ringing, mine kept ringing.”
She continued, “Offset picked up the phone and he’s just like (screaming), ‘No!’” Cardi asked him what was wrong, to which he responded, “Takeoff is dead.” She claimed she then smacked him and asked him not to saying something that bad about Takeoff.
When she repeated the question, the rapper responded, “Takeoff is dead.” She apparently smacked him and begged him not to say something so horrible.
Offset, she added, took the news hard, leaving her afraid as he threw up, ran around the house and tossed things. “It was terrible,” she said. “Everything was so triggering.”
Takeoff was shot outside of a Houston bowling alley on November 1. In the wake of his death, Cardi shared that she felt hopeless while trying to cheer Offset up.
“We living our life normally, but deep down inside our hearts have been so heavy,” she said. “I feel like if we talk about how we really feel or what motherf**kers really been going through, y’all will start saying, ‘Oh, sympathy.'”
“We don’t want no sympathy,” she continued. “We ain’t no charity case. But no lie, I have been feeling so hopeless trying to make my husband happy.”
