Fans will have to wait a little while longer the hear French Montana and Drake‘s song, “Splash Brothers.”
The track was set to appear on French’s upcoming album, They Got Amnesia, due out Friday, but Variety confirmed that Drake pulled the song out of respect for victims of the Astroworld tragedy that occurred on November 5.
It’s expected that “Splash Brothers” will appear on a deluxe or extended version of Montana’s album whenever that drops. However, some fans believe the track was taken off the project because of the Canadian rapper’s lyrics.
On Wednesday, a snippet of the song was briefly released online and featured the Certified Lover Boy rapping about being intimate with another rapper’s wife. Many assumed he may have been talking about Kim Kardashian, Kanye West‘s estranged wife, and, in light of the two recently squashing their beef, Drake decided to delay its release. Whether that was part of it Drizzy’s decision is unknown.
What is known is that Drake was a special guest at Travis Scott‘s Astroworld Festival in Houston, where 10 died and hundreds more were injured after a crowd surged the stage. Shortly after the tragedy, Drake, who is being sued along with Scott and others, took Instagram to address the matter.
“I’ve spent the past few days trying to wrap my head around this devastating tragedy… My heart is broken for the families and friends of those who lost their lives and for anyone suffering,” he wrote.
